Not sure if you're making a profit?

Without up-to-date records, it's hard to know if you're actually ahead after wages, stock and rent are paid.

BAS and payroll deadlines creeping up?

Missing due dates can lead to penalties and stress. We’ll keep you on track and compliant all year round.

Losing track of stock and supply costs?

Hair colour, wax, gloves, skincare. We’ll help you keep tabs on expenses and make smarter stock decisions.

The Financial Questions Every Salon Owner Runs Into

Salons and clinics carry a mix of revenue types that very few other small businesses deal with at once. Service income, retail product sales, prepaid packages and gift vouchers all behave differently, and each one is treated differently in your books. Getting them coded consistently is the difference between reporting that tells you something and reporting that simply confirms money moved.

Gift vouchers and prepaid treatment packages are the clearest example. Money received for a service not yet delivered is not revenue in the month it arrives. It is an obligation to provide a service later, and until that service is delivered it belongs on your balance sheet rather than in your profit figure. Salons that treat voucher sales as income in December show a strong month and then wonder why January and February look poor, when in reality the January work was already paid for. Tracking unredeemed vouchers also tells you what service capacity you have already committed and how much cash in your account is genuinely yours to spend.

The second recurring question is how your team is engaged. Chair rental, room rental and commission based arrangements are common across the industry, and the label used in the agreement does not determine the outcome. Where a person is paid mainly for their labour, superannuation may be payable even where they invoice you and hold an ABN. Where an arrangement is genuinely a rental, the rent you receive is income to your business and needs to be recorded as such, with its own GST treatment. These arrangements also feed into your position for payroll tax purposes once total wages reach the relevant threshold. The distinction is worth getting right at the outset, because unwinding it later is expensive.

Retail stock is the third area. Product held on the shelf is cash you have already spent, and slow moving lines tie up working capital that a salon rarely has spare. Tracking cost of goods properly is what lets you see whether your retail is genuinely profitable or simply moving.

We keep service and retail income separated, code your GST correctly across both, track unredeemed vouchers, manage payroll against the applicable award, and prepare your BAS from records that are already reconciled. You get monthly reporting that shows what the salon actually earns rather than what passed through the till.
